Series: Eden of the Lamp
Age group: 9 - 12
Page count: 272 pages
Summary from Amazon:
All twelve years of Eden's life have been spent in an antique oil lamp. She lives like a princess inside her tiny, luxurious home, but to Eden, the lamp is nothing but a prison. She hates being a genie. All she wants, more than anything, is freedom.
When Eden finds a gateway to Earth inside the lamp, she takes her chance. In a moment, she's entered the world she loves. And this time, she won't be sent back after three wishes.
Posing as the new kid at a California middle school, Eden revels in all of Earth's pleasures-but quickly learns that this world isn't as perfect as she always thought it was. Eden soon finds herself in the middle of a centuries-old conflict between powerful immortals. A ruthless organization run by a former genie will stop at nothing to acquire the lamp and its power-including hurting Tyler and Sasha, the mortal friends who have given Eden a home. To save her friends-and protect the magic of the lamp-Eden will have to decide once and for all where she belongs.
Reasons I like Eden's Wish:
- Eden's character is so innocent and happy with all things we don't give a second thought to. She delights in everything and I really liked her friendliness and kindness.
- There are two settings: the lamp and the Earth. Both were so fun to experience and they were described so well! It felt like the author was really trying to let us enjoy Earth and Eden's world.
- The story was full of interesting things that helped the story move along. There's never a slow spot. The story moves along, and it's wonderful to see how Eden realizes what she does as a genie. She makes sacrifices for the better good.
Overall, I give this book an eight out of ten! This book is light, funny and enjoyable! The end kinda ends on a cliffhanger (one of those types were it'd be okay if there wasn't a second book, but intriguing enough to make you want the next book). I look forward to reading Eden's Escape, the second book that comes out in September!
After high school, I moved to LA to study film at the University of Southern California. My first job after college was assisting an independent movie producer and a literary manager, then I moved to the motion picture literary department of a talent agency. I loved being a part of the process of shaping scripts into stories that would come to life onscreen.
But eventually, I realized that I still wanted to write my own stories. I’d grown up, but my childhood dream hadn’t. So I moved to Sydney for a Master’s program in writing at Macquarie University. While I was in Australia, my world grew in beautiful, bright, and unexpected ways.
A year later, I moved to New York City and finished the book I’d started writing in Sydney. That book is called EDEN’S WISH, and it was released by Disney-Hyperion on September 1, 2015. The second book in the series, EDEN'S ESCAPE, will be released on September 6, 2016.
